ELCIC AND CLWR NAME NEW INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Winnipeg, 20 September 2006 - Sister Monica Denk has been appointed as the new International Volunteer Coordinator. This position supports the work of both the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) and Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) by coordinating and promoting the new CLWR International Volunteer Service (IVS) program and the established Volunteers in Mission (VIM) program of the ELCIC.

Denk, a member of the Deaconess Community of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, brings a solid understanding of the church’s witness through diakonia and a commitment to global issues of development and justice. She is a representative to the Central Committee of the Diakonia of the Americas and Carribean. Denk managed Ansgar Lutheran Housing and Villa in Edmonton for three years and has considerable experience with interim parish ministry. Most recently, Denk has been serving as interim pastor at Bashaw Lutheran Parish, Bashaw, Alberta.

The International Volunteer Coordinator will be based in the CLWR office and Denk is expected to begin this position on November 1, 2006. Until then, inquiries about the IVS program can be directed to Robert Granke, Executive Director of CLWR, while Kelvin Krieger, ELCIC Mission in the World Coordinator, is the contact for the VIM Program.
